Enrolment area
All newly-arrived students from a language background other than English who live in the Evans IEC drawing area in Western Sydney are referred to our Intensive English Centre for assessment of their English language proficiency before enrolment in high school.
Non-local enrolments
As outlined in the department’s enrolment policy, our school may accept enrolments from outside our local enrolment area if places are available.
Who can enrol?
Newly arrived students wishing to enrol in the IEC must meet certain requirements:
- speak a language other than English as their first language and require intensive ESL instruction to enable them to participate in secondary education
- be newly arrived in Australia and applying for IEC placement within 6 months of arrival
- be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, an approved provisional visa holder, an international fee paying students or have an appropriate temporary visa (fees may be payable). For further information regarding visas and fees, please contact the Centre on (02) 9622 1289.
- have the intention to continue their education in a government high school after completion of the IEC course.
Eligible Year 6 students may transfer from a primary school to an IEC to prepare for entry to high school the following year. A year 6 student must be 11 years of age by 31st July in the year of enrolment.
Schools enquiring about a possible transfer should contact their local IEC.
How to enrol
Students can apply to enrol directly in an IEC or be referred by a government school to Evans IEC. Telephone the Centre on (02) 9622 1289 to make an appointment for an assessment.
When making the appointment, the Centre will need the following information: the student's name, address, contact telephone number, date of birth, date of arrival in Australia, language spoken and visa subclass. If the assessment shows they need intensive English instruction, students then enrol directly in the Intensive English Centre.
A parent/guardian must accompany the student to the interview to sign all necessary documentation. Students seeking to enrol in an IEC must complete an application to enrol in a NSW Government School. Please allow 3 hours for the assessment and enrolment process.
Some temporary visa categories are fee exempt. For more information refer to the Schedule of Visa Subclasses and Conditions.
International students
All international student enrolments are managed by DE International. International students who require intensive English tuition before enrolling in a high school within the drawing area of Evans IEC in Western Sydney will study at the Centre.
