International students are required to maintain private health insurance, which will have been organised prior to their arrival in Australia.
Medibank card holders
For students who have their insurance through Medibank, there are additional resources available:
- On the back of their Medibank card there is a 24 hour helpline number which will connect them to a nurse. The nurse will assess their symptoms and advise them on a course of action, or call an ambulance for them if necessary. Interpreters are available.
- Students are able to access certain medical practices that will bill Medibank directly for the student to visit a GP. In Blacktown area these centres are :

Bupa card holders
BUPA also has a network of "BUPA friendly" doctors. These doctors (GP only) have an agreement with BUPA to bill them directly when students produce their BUPA card.

If students urgently need a doctor outside their doctor's normal hours, call the National Home Doctor Service 13 SICK (7425). This helpline will provide medical advice over the telephone or will send a doctor to the student's home if necessary. Students will not be charged directly provided they show the doctor their BUPA membership card.
Allianz card holders
Direct billing doctors are also available to Allianz card holders, providing students are able to produce their membership card. Please note that some costs are not covered, so students are advised to check with their doctor.
There are no doctors listed in Blacktown as direct billing doctors, however there are medical practices in other areas who may participate in this scheme. To find a local area doctor or to access further information regarding their cover, students can visit oshcallianzassistance.com.au.
There is a 24 hour emergency helpline available by calling 1800 814 781. This helpline offers medical, legal and interpreting services in emergency situations.
